Survival of the fittest is apparent in the animal world, in business dealings and at designer shoe sales. Give yourself a fighting chance with today’s GoodNews.com deal: three private self-defense classes at Fists of Mystery and Truth, valued at $218, for just $59.
Fists of Mystery and Truth is a kung fu school that offers Baguazhang and Zhaguan, two ancient forms of Chinese martial arts that focus on free-fighting, self-defense, and internal power development. Baguazhang uses turning, wrapping and coiling movements against an opponent, while Zhaguan cycles through 10 routines made up of extended movements and rhythmic maneuvers, mixed with whirlwind arms, hammer fists and throws. Classes combine both styles for an intense, full-body workout.
Expert instructor John Spak has been immersed in the world of martial arts since 1974. Former students include Tim Chan, a multi-year champion in provincial Sanshou and member of Canada's National Team in 2007. Spak will work with you to develop a curriculum that suits your needs and goals, first teaching you about the tradition and history of Baguazhang and Zhaguan. Then, you’ll practice introductory martial arts skills, basic postures, and at least one defense against whatever type of aggression you're concerned about, real or imagined. Classes can typically be scheduled Sunday to Friday between 10 am and 10 pm.
You'll reap the benefits of having an experienced instructor's undivided attention, so you'll gain defense skills that are effective against any aggressor. Martial arts strengthen both body and mind, helping you feel safer on the streets, feed your need for competition, or beat your donut-loving coworker to the last chocolate-glazed.
