After the bitter breakup of the world’s supercontinent, post-Pangea life forms started to create unique countries, cultures and tapas menus. See what happens when three European regions reunite with today’s GoodNews.com deal: $30 worth of food at Mis Trucos for just $12.
Mis Trucos is a Mediterranean tapas bar that merges Spanish, French, and Italian influences and serves them up on small share plates. Start off with menu items like the pine-nut, raisin, spinach and Parmesan dip with crostini ($7) or house-made chorizo stuffed squid and tomato fondue ($2.90/$9), then pass plates like the braised pork belly with chickpeas, piquillo peppers and artichokes ($16). Get the evening going with a 3 Sparrows: Havano Blanco rum, lime, grapefruit and Madagascar vanilla ($10) or douse your thirst with a pitcher of sangria ($15).
Mis Trucos is the brainchild of Kris Barnholden, a former sous-chef of Parkside, who works alongside GM Eryn Dorman from Fuel and barman Jonathan James, formerly of Uva. To get to Mis Trucos, which means “my tricks” in Spanish, you head up a flight of stairs and right into a converted 1920’s character home. The room is warmly set up with a natural wood bar and cozy fireside lounge, although the secluded 30-seat outdoor patio is more of a draw these days. Wherever you sit, you'll feel like you're in a friend's home, until the waiter asks you to stop helping yourself from the fridge and to please put your socks back on.
“Barnholden delivers Spanish and Mediterranean food with bright, clean, fresh flavours. We loved our meals. Mis Trucos is somewhat Main St. boho but the food is beyond casual, closer to upscale and sophisticated.” – Mia Stainsby, the Vancouver Sun
